About the event
Tēnā koe e hoa! Auckland Model United Nations (AMUN) is back to welcome you in 2024! AMUN is recognised as the largest UN Youth event in Aotearoa and is held over two days at Te Whare Wānanga o Tāmaki Makaurau, the University of Auckland. We are excited to welcome hundreds of rangatahi from across the Tāmaki Makaurau region and beyond.
What is AMUN?
AMUN is held annually with the goals to enable high school students to develop a diplomatic perspective toward the world's most pressing issues. Delegates will each represent a country, creating a simulation reminiscent of a standard United Nations General Assembly. The topics of debate will surround both current and relevant real-world challenges. Participants will represent their country's viewpoints while considering their nation's political, economic, and cultural climates. They will delve into the issues of an interconnected world wrought with complexities while simultaneously working together to create solutions for these contentious global issues.
Without an outstanding team of volunteers AMUN 2024 would not be the exceptional UN Youth event it is. Our volunteers play a significant role in every part of our event in order for the event to function perfectly throughout the weekend. The work of our volunteers does not go unnoticed, as they bring their expertise as primary communicators to achieve a successful and smooth-sailing event for our fellow delegates. Volunteering at UN Youth is an exceptionally rewarding and uplifting experience through interactions and mitigating challenges during the event. Hence why, we are incredibly grateful to our returning volunteers that are equally passionate about our organisation and bring the event all together. We also would love to invite new volunteers to register, whether you’re embarking on your first year or simply wanting to give back to your community. We would love to hear the new perspectives and passionate energy you can bring to the event.
The volunteer roles available are Committee Facilitator, Logistics Officer, Welfare Officer, Rural Outreach Officer, Media Officer, M&PI Liaison, Neurodiverse Liaison and LGBTQ+ Liaison. We have a variety of positions that suit a variety of interests and skills! More information on these roles can be found here.
Why should I volunteer at AMUN?
Being a volunteer at AMUN is a great way to give back to your community while leaving an everlasting impact on a delegate’s experience. With your leadership and direction at AMUN, you will play a significant role in motivating future diplomats and activists. Through our volunteer experience you can be expected to be faced with challenges where opportunities lie to think quick on your feet and be your best self.
Volunteering at AMUN also contributes to gaining valuable experiences in professional development, and you gain a unique CV role to make you stand out! Moreover, this conference invites volunteers to interact with like-minded rangatahi and meet new people before and during the event.
We equip our volunteers with extensive volunteer training to ensure our volunteers have the tools to create a safe and empowering environment for our delegate to expand their skills. Furthermore, to say thank you to our volunteers for their hard work at AMUN we invite you all to an after-event to celebrate their mahi!
We welcome all volunteers with every level of UN Youth experience levels; regardless if you are an experienced volunteer or a first-timer, what counts most is your commitment to making Auckland Model UN 2024 the greatest ever!
UN Youth Auckland is committed to protecting the hauora of our delegates and volunteers and complying with the Government's COVID Protection Framework. We understand that COVID can be a source of anxiety for some delegates/volunteers and continues to be present within our communities. Therefore we are focused on delivering a safe environment and communicating with our participants about how the event will operate.
