The flagship Canterbury UN Youth event is back for round two for 2022, but this time, IN PERSON!

Held at the University of Canterbury, CanMUN 2022 offers volunteer opportunities for tertiary students (or post-high school students under 25) over a weekend to get rangatahi engaged with international affairs and global politics. If you are interested in leading the charge with civics education, this could be for you!

So what is a Model United Nations? Essentially, high school students get the opportunity to represent a member state of the United Nations in a simulation of a United Nations General Assembly. This year our topics will be particularly relevant to youth. Your job will be to facilitate workshops, activities, and general debates to get students working together and problem-solving.

Volunteering at CanMUN is an activity in which tertiary students can engage with and give back to the Canterbury region and see tangible benefits from their involvement, both for themselves and for the delegates. While in a supporting role, volunteers are exposed to the same content as delegates and thus expand their knowledge about global citizenship and issues. The volunteering experience gained from CanMUN is useful for professional development and looks great on the CV! Everyone is encouraged to apply, and you DO NOT need any previous experience! It will be a great chance to meet and network with other like-minded, awesome young people, make new friends, and guide high schoolers into the next chapter of their lives.

If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to email the Canterbury Regional President, Rana, at [email protected].
