First run in 2018, New Zealand Model Parliament is UN Youth New Zealand’s  youngest national conference, and we are thrilled to announce its return this year!  We are excited to invite all secondary school students to the 3 day event held in the beautiful Ōtautahi - Christchurch for an experiential window into the workings of the New Zealand parliamentary system.

Over the three days, students will have the opportunity to experience hands-on the process of a bill becoming legislation through the House of Representatives. As a volunteer, you contribute to an event which aims to provide participants with a thorough understanding of how Parliament’s laws affect our lives, inter-party politics and the legislative process. NZMP cannot happen without the help of our volunteers! They underpin every aspect of the conference, working together to create a successful and enjoyable event for participants. Their enthusiasm, hard work, creativity, and knowledge are what makes Model Parliament such a memorable experience.

Volunteering at NZ Model Parliament is an incredibly rewarding experience, and with so many different roles on offer, there will be one to suit everyone’s skillset. Whether you are a seasoned volunteer or new to UN Youth, we encourage you to apply if you are interested!

Volunteer role descriptions can be found here. Please note that volunteering is only open to high school leavers aged 25 or under.

A Regional Delegation programme may be made available to participants coming from outside of Christchurch. The decision will be made by July 15th. In the meantime, you may express interest in fulfilling an RD Officer role.

We are also excited to take expressions of interest for an online iteration of this event which will run on the same dates as the in-person event. If you are unable to commit to travelling to Christchurch, this is an excellent opportunity to experience New Zealand Model Parliament from the comfort of your own home!

At the moment there are limited travel cost subsidies available to volunteers travelling from outside of Christchurch, however the committee endeavours to offer more, subject to grant availability.

Head of Welfare expressions of interest are now open too. Those interested should contact our committee volunteer officer, Brianna, at [email protected] with a brief expression of interest by 23:59pm, Sunday 26th July.

Volunteer applications have been extended and will now close at 8:00pm, Sunday 17th July.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at [email protected].
