ABOUT THE EVENT

Waikato Model United Nations is a brand new Model UN event for students in Hamilton and the wider Waikato region, aimed at bringing together passionate students from across these regions to engage in vibrant discussions and develop real-world skills. Held at The University of Waikato, the conference offers an immersive experience with a schedule of committee sessions, innovative workshops, and opportunities for delegates to connect and collaborate beyond formal debates.

At WaikatoMUN, participants will be immersed in the world of diplomacy, representing countries from across the world in a simulation of the United Nations. Delegates will debate pressing issues such as artificial intelligence, healthcare, and global security and will collaborate to ideate meaningful solutions to these problems.

WaikatoMUN will feature a range of committee styles, varying in intensity and size to provide delegates with a dynamic hands-on learning environment. The new Negotiation Chamber is a dynamic and collaboration-based committee style that delegates will be able to try for the first time.

The theme for this event is Current Affairs. It reflects both the powerful currents of the Waikato River that are the lifeblood of the region and the increasing influence of new digital developments on our lives. Waikato Model United Nations focuses on salient issues that have a real impact on people and will be the backdrop for the future that you inherit.

The event will also facilitate vibrant cultural exchanges and social interactions, allowing delegates to delve into the world of international affairs while building lasting connections.

We have worked hard to ensure that WaikatoMUN is inclusive and engaging, making it the perfect environment for both seasoned speakers and newcomers to MUN.

ABOUT UN YOUTH

UN Youth is a non-profit organisation that provides civics education outside the traditional classroom context. Through fun workshops and conferences, we engage youth in the most pressing affairs of their country and the international community. Our goal is to inspire young New Zealanders to be active, global citizens. Global citizenship exists in an incredibly diverse range of forms, and UN Youth provides opportunities for delegates to develop their own form of active citizenship. Throughout Aotearoa, our work equips young people to become informed, engaged, and critical New Zealanders who understand their global context and the connections between the local and the global. Annually, over 3000 young New Zealanders from Northland to Southland attend a UN Youth event, run by a body of over 150 volunteers across the country who dedicate many hours of their time to engaging young people and growing the organisation.
