OUTREACH PROGRAMME
Regional Roots, Global Vision
UN Youth New Zealand’s Outreach Programme is all about bringing our events and opportunities to young people beyond the major cities — making sure that no matter where you live, you have access to meaningful, empowering civic education.
Right now, our Outreach work is focused in the wider Wellington region, with events held in Gisborne, Hawke’s Bay, Palmerston North, and New Plymouth. These events are designed to be locally relevant, accessible, and engaging — offering the same high-quality experiences UN Youth is known for, in places where students may not have had the chance to participate before.
A key part of our Outreach work is IN+Schools, where we visit high schools directly and run in-school Model UNs and workshops. These sessions bring global issues, debate, and diplomacy straight into the classroom — making it easier than ever for students to experience the excitement of a UN Youth event without needing to travel. IN+Schools empowers students to step into the shoes of global leaders, build confidence in public speaking, and engage in meaningful kōrero about the world around them — all within their own school community.
Through workshops, mini-conferences, one-day events, and IN+Schools sessions, we explore key issues facing Aotearoa and the world — encouraging rangatahi to speak up, think critically, and connect with others who care. These spaces are welcoming, inclusive, and driven by the belief that leadership and political engagement should never be limited by geography.
Our vision is to expand the Outreach Programme even further — building stronger regional networks, reaching more young people across Aotearoa, and uplifting voices from all corners of the country. By removing barriers to participation, we’re working toward a future where every student, regardless of where they live, has the tools and confidence to shape their world.
Whether you're attending your first UN Youth event or helping to bring one to your town or school, Outreach is about creating opportunities — and community — wherever you are.
