ABOUT THE EVENT
Are you ready to dive into the world of international law? Welcome to Wellington Model International Court of Justice (WMICJ), the perfect event for high school students who are eager to explore the intricacies of law, justice, and equality. Whether you’re a seasoned debater or completely new, we have a place for you. Choose between our two Court (committee) options: the Competitive Court and the Non-Competitive Court. For those wanting the challenge, the Competitive Court promises an exciting time. Here, you will engage in spirited (and more formal) debates, receive feedback on your speeches and position papers, and have the chance to be recognised at our awards ceremony. If you’re looking for a more relaxed (while still formal) experience, the Non-Competitive Court is exactly that. It’s a great choice for those looking to engage thoughtfully without the added pressure of competition. Although the real ICJ may have an unfortunate reputation of failing to live up to its potential, WMICJ will be getting to the very heart of one of the most prevalent issues in modern international law: unauthorisation. Oftentimes, when legal authority and validity are in question, so too are the lives and wellbeing of citizens. As judges of the ICJ, it will be both your power and responsibility to issue a judgment that helps protect them. It’s time to step up. All rise. |
ABOUT UN YOUTH
UN Youth is a non-profit organisation that provides civics education outside the traditional classroom context. Through fun workshops and conferences, we engage youth in the most pressing affairs of their country and the international community. Our goal is to inspire young New Zealanders to be active, global citizens. Global citizenship exists in an incredibly diverse range of forms, and UN Youth provides opportunities for delegates to develop their own form of active citizenship. Throughout Aotearoa, our work equips young people to become informed, engaged, and critical New Zealanders who understand their global context and the connections between the local and the global. Annually, over 3000 young New Zealanders from Northland to Southland attend a UN Youth event, run by a body of over 150 volunteers across the country who dedicate many hours of their time to engaging young people and growing the organisation.
