Are you a passionate, opinionated individual wanting to develop public speaking, debating and leadership skills in an inspiring environment? UN Youth’s 2026 Wellington Model United Nations (WMUN) is the experience for you. This event is a great way to connect with like minded peers and grow as an individual. Taking place over the weekend of the 28th and 29th of March 2026, delegates will have the opportunity to participate in skill building workshops, create long lasting friendships and debate about topical global issues representing a member state in the Model United Nations general assembly.
The theme of this year's event is UN+Obscured. This theme represents discovering new ideas, uncovering taboo topics and unobscuring your own opinion on difficult topics. The main objective for WMUN is breaking down old ideas, establishing new ones and tackling new world issues. Delegates will broaden their views on contrasting policies and topics, resulting in the development of interpersonal skills. WMUN aims to encourage co-operation and meaningful debate through engaging resolutions.
Registrations open for delegates and conference assistants on 14th February 2026 at 07:00 AM and will close at 11.59PM on the 7th March 2026. Get your applications in quickly so you don’t miss out on this incredible experience!
ABOUT UN YOUTH
UN Youth is a non-profit organisation that provides civics education outside the traditional classroom context. Through fun workshops and conferences, we engage youth in the most pressing affairs of their country and the international community. Our goal is to inspire young New Zealanders to be active, global citizens. Global citizenship exists in an incredibly diverse range of forms, and UN Youth provides opportunities for delegates to develop their own form of active citizenship. Throughout Aotearoa, our work equips young people to become informed, engaged, and critical New Zealanders who understand their global context and the connections between the local and the global. Annually, over 3000 young New Zealanders from Northland to Southland attend a UN Youth event, run by a body of over 150 volunteers across the country who dedicate many hours of their time to engaging young people and growing the organisation.
