ABOUT THE EVENT

Do you like debating? Do you have strong opinions on global energy markets? Are you looking for a forum to show off your international relations and economics knowledge? Make sure you come along to Wellington Tertiary Model UN 2026!

The topic will be The Question of Multilateral Responses to Conflict-Driven Energy Disruptions. Our theme this year is UN+FUELLED, to represent the state of much of the world after weeks of high oil costs and uncertainty in the energy markets. Take your mind off stressing for exams and assignments by joining us in some collective stressing about the cost of petrol and power! At TertMUN, you’ll get a chance to hone your debate skills by engaging in cooperative (or maybe adversarial…) diplomacy with your fellow students. You will act as a member state of the United Nations, presented with a resolution seeking to resolve the economic and humanitarian crisis resulting from conflict-driven oil disruptions. Through a series of structured debates designed to give everyone a chance to have their voices heard and leave their mark on the resolution, you will make amendments and propose new clauses so you and your country get what you want out of the UN’s action. So come along and try out Tertiary Model UN with us, have some free food, and meet some great people who share your love of international politics.

The event will be held in room LBLT118 in the Laby building at Victoria University of Wellington on Saturday, May 9th, from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Food will be provided. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at [email protected]

ABOUT UN YOUTH

UN Youth is a non-profit organisation that provides civics education outside the traditional classroom context. Through fun workshops and conferences, we engage youth in the most pressing affairs of their country and the international community. Our goal is to inspire young New Zealanders to be active, global citizens. Global citizenship exists in an incredibly diverse range of forms, and UN Youth provides opportunities for delegates to develop their own form of active citizenship. Throughout Aotearoa, our work equips young people to become informed, engaged, and critical New Zealanders who understand their global context and the connections between the local and the global. Annually, over 3000 young New Zealanders from Northland to Southland attend a UN Youth event, run by a body of over 150 volunteers across the country who dedicate many hours of their time to engaging young people and growing the organisation.
