What is AMUN?
Auckland Model United Nations (AMUN) is returning in 2027 for two impactful days of challenging and deeply rewarding diplomacy . As New Zealand’s largest UN Youth event, AMUN brings over 300 students together to simulate the decision-making processes of the United Nations, engaging in debates to tackle the world’s most pressing global issues.
What does the Committee do?
The organising committee is made of key roles from education to logistics, helping create and deliver the event. Led by a coordinator, this is a deeply engaged team that is guided by Auckland Regional Council to plan everything from the educational materials, the budget, and the promotional materials.
What are the roles?
Roles include:
Coordinator: Drives the strategic vision, timelines, and committee management while maintaining an inclusive environment for the conference.
Assistant Coordinator: Supports the committee management, collaborates on securing external event sponsorships, and achieving the committee vision.
Educations Officer: Researches global topics, drafts key educational content, and trains committee facilitators.
Communications Officer: Serves as the primary contact for delegates, creates and manages registration data as well as post-event administrative follow-ups.
Logistics Officer: Oversees the event budget, tracks expenses, and manages key logistical operations.
Equity Officer: Creates, and oversees the Head Volunteers in delivering the Welfare and Liaison programmes.
Volunteers Officer: Recruits, liaises, and manages the volunteer team. Organises and leads the volunteer training hui.
Relations Officer: Secures external grants and sponsorships, as well as, invites and supports guest speakers.
Outreach Officer: Runs regional workshops across Northland, Waikato, and Bay of Plenty.
Promotions Officer: creates and delivers highly engaging promotional material including social media posts and event visual materials.
Who should apply? Everyone under 26 of all experience levels is invited to apply to the 2027 AMUN Committee! This is a unique opportunity to learn from other experienced volunteers on the Auckland Regional Council who will train, and guide you through the entire process. ABOUT UN YOUTH
UN Youth is a non-profit organisation that provides civics education outside the traditional classroom context. Through fun workshops and conferences, we engage youth in the most pressing affairs of their country and the international community. Our goal is to inspire young New Zealanders to be active, global citizens. Global citizenship exists in an incredibly diverse range of forms, and UN Youth provides opportunities for delegates to develop their own form of active citizenship. Throughout Aotearoa, our work equips young people to become informed, engaged, and critical New Zealanders who understand their global context and the connections between the local and the global. Annually, over 3000 young New Zealanders from Northland to Southland attend a UN Youth event, run by a body of over 150 volunteers across the country who dedicate many hours of their time to engaging young people and growing the organisation.
