ABOUT THE EVENT
Auckland Model United Nations (AMUN) is back for 2026! Following the success of AMUN 2025, the largest UN Youth event in New Zealand, we are returning to Te Whare Wānanga o Tāmaki Makaurau (the University of Auckland) for another year of high-impact diplomacy.
We are looking for a dedicated, empathetic, and proactive individual to join our AMUN 2026 Committee as the Head of Welfare.
What is AMUN?
Auckland Model United Nations (AMUN) is a two-day conference that brings global diplomacy to life for secondary school students. Participants take on the roles of diplomats, researching and representing their assigned country’s political, economic, and cultural interests to solve the world’s most complex challenges.
Why does the Head of Welfare Matter?
While the delegates focus on international relations, the Head of Welfare focuses on the people. Large-scale events can be overwhelming for young participants and volunteers alike. Your role is to ensure that the complexities of the committee debate doesn't come at the cost of student wellbeing. You are there to provide the safety net that creates a safe environment for respectful discussions to flourish.
ABOUT UN YOUTH
UN Youth is a non-profit organisation that provides civics education outside the traditional classroom context. Through fun workshops and conferences, we engage youth in the most pressing affairs of their country and the international community. Our goal is to inspire young New Zealanders to be active, global citizens. Global citizenship exists in an incredibly diverse range of forms, and UN Youth provides opportunities for delegates to develop their own form of active citizenship. Throughout Aotearoa, our work equips young people to become informed, engaged, and critical New Zealanders who understand their global context and the connections between the local and the global. Annually, over 3000 young New Zealanders from Northland to Southland attend a UN Youth event, run by a body of over 150 volunteers across the country who dedicate many hours of their time to engaging young people and growing the organisation.
