ABOUT THE EVENT
The Evatt Trophy Competition engages high school students across Australia in world affairs and issues through debating mock Security Council resolutions. In pairs, delegates will be assigned a country and one resolution a week prior to the competition. They will then develop their stance on the prepared resolution from the perspective of their assigned country. On the day of their round, they will debate, amend and finally vote on the prepared resolution and one impromptu resolution.
The competition provides a forum for high school students to meet like-minded students and develop their public speaking and negotiation skills. It fosters learning through a non-teaching environment and creates a positive and empowering experience for students who are interested in international relations, politics and world affairs. New Zealand is lucky enough to be invited directly to the National Finals.
The Evatt National Finals (ENF) this year will be held in Sydney from 4th December - 11rd December(TBC). This is an incredible opportunity for two passionate volunteers to play a big role in delivering a uniquely rewarding experience to our rangatahi. We are looking to appoint two Co-directors and there will be four high school aged participants chosen for the trip.
ABOUT UN YOUTH
UN Youth is a non-profit organisation that provides civics education outside the traditional classroom context. Through fun workshops and conferences, we engage youth in the most pressing affairs of their country and the international community. Our goal is to inspire young New Zealanders to be active, global citizens. Global citizenship exists in an incredibly diverse range of forms, and UN Youth provides opportunities for delegates to develop their own form of active citizenship. Throughout Aotearoa, our work equips young people to become informed, engaged, and critical New Zealanders who understand their global context and the connections between the local and the global. Annually, over 3000 young New Zealanders from Northland to Southland attend a UN Youth event, run by a body of over 150 volunteers across the country who dedicate many hours of their time to engaging young people and growing the organisation.
