ABOUT THE EVENT

NZ Model UN (NZMUN) is UN Youth’s flagship Model UN conference. Held in the beautiful Whanganui a Tara Wellington, delegates assume the role of and represent UN nations. Across four days, delegates engage with global issues, advocating for their countries perspective in simulated committee and plenary sessions. In between, delegates are invited to participate in an all-around inspiring experience. Between engaging problem-solving workshops, and exciting guest speakers, students will be given a platform to discuss issues important to them! NZMUN gives delegates the opportunity to learn more about the world and their place in it as a global citizen.

As a volunteer, you'll play a vital role in facilitating the simulation of global diplomacy in the form of committees, and plenary sessions. Whether you chair a session, secretary, manage a regional group, or are involved in one of our operational teams, volunteers make it all possible. Volunteers make the NZMUN experience, giving delegates an amazing opportunity while upskilling and creating value for themselves.

  • Head of welfare

Overseeing the welfare and liaison teams (with assistance from the head liaisons) your goals will be to look after the mental and physical welfare of both delegates and volunteers. A crucial role to the event you should have previous welfare experience to be considered and a valid first aid certificate is preferred. Before the event you will work closely with the NZMUN committee to formulate a welfare plan and train your team. This role offers opportunities to make a positive impact on all who attend the conference. If the welfare of others is something you feel passionate about and are looking for a fulfilling experience then we invite you to sign up.

  • Regional Delegation Director

Overseeing the regional delegation your main objective will be to provide a safe and comfortable environment for delegates travelling away from home. Working alongside the committee you will plan a comprehensive regional delegation vision, this will include booking suitable accommodation, daily itineraries, a budget and welfare plan. You and your team will play an important role in facilitating the best experience possible for your delegates as a temporary home away from home.

  • Head of Press

Overseeing the press program you will be leading your press corp team in this unique and creative aspect of NZMUN. From editing and publishing a daily newsletter that covers breaking stories and insights from the event to designing workshops and organising speakers, you will help mentor these delegates to find their creative voice.

  • Head Māori & Pasifika Liaison

Overseeing the MPI program you will be responsible for ensuring a safe and accepting space for those who identify with MPI. With your team of liaisons you will work closely with the committee to create a program with the intent to guide, nurture and educate. Through MPI lunches, mentorship and general availability for MPI delegates and volunteers you will shape a program to best express your passion for the role. Together with the committee your vision of the MPI program can help to create a safer, accessible and supportive environment for MPI delegates to succeed to their best potential.

  • Head Queer Liaison

Overseeing the Queer program you will work with the welfare and your own liaison team to represent and provide a safe community for LGBTQ+ delegates. By providing a LGBTQ+ focused support system and activities you will ensure a sense of community and safety to provide delegates with all they need to succeed to the best of their ability.

  • Head ND/Accessibility Liaison

Overseeing programs focused on Neurodiversity and keeping accessibility at your forefront you will work with the welfare and your own liaison team to create a space where everyone can contribute and succeed. By ensuring support and advocacy for those with disabilities at the conference you will help create a space that allows everyone to participate and succeed.

ABOUT UN YOUTH

UN Youth is a non-profit organisation that provides civics education outside the traditional classroom context. Through fun workshops and conferences, we engage youth in the most pressing affairs of their country and the international community. Our goal is to inspire young New Zealanders to be active, global citizens. Global citizenship exists in an incredibly diverse range of forms, and UN Youth provides opportunities for delegates to develop their own form of active citizenship. Throughout Aotearoa, our work equips young people to become informed, engaged, and critical New Zealanders who understand their global context and the connections between the local and the global. Annually, over 3000 young New Zealanders from Northland to Southland attend a UN Youth event, run by a body of over 150 volunteers across the country who dedicate many hours of their time to engaging young people and growing the organisation.
