ABOUT THE EVENT

Be part of the Wellington Competitive Model United Nations Committee in 2026!

Competitive Model UN, or CompMUN for short, is a dynamic event still in its infancy that takes the standard Model UN format and improves upon it by injecting adjudicated debate and competitive elements. Delegates will still amend resolutions and debate, but now will be judged on the quality of their amendments and speeches, and will have the opportunity to submit position papers to show off the depth of their research. The strengths and weaknesses of their performances will be judged by a team of talented adjudicators, who will evaluate the delegates and provide feedback to help them improve.

This is only the second year we’ve ever done CompMUN, and it will be the first year with a committee organising and running it. So why not apply to be a member of that inaugural committee and help make this event bigger and better than before!

Roles and responsibilities of the Committee!

Educations Officer

In charge of curating insightful content and resources that enhance the educational experience of our delegates. You write the briefing papers, resolutions, and workshops for our delegates to participate in. We want people to bring fresh ideas to the table to make CompMUN's educational component even more impactful.

Logistics Officer

You ensure the logistical aspects of CompMUN run like clockwork. You're in charge of keeping track of event supplies, equipment, and materials, and making sure everything is in place when needed.  You will also be in charge of preparing a budget and ensuring the finances of the event are in order. Be the go-to person for resolving logistical challenges swiftly and efficiently.

Communications Officer

Your role is to craft compelling communications to promote CompMUN and engage with our participants and the wider community. You will manage our social media channels and create engaging content to keep everyone informed and excited. Must maintain clear and efficient communication channels, ensuring everyone is in the loop. During the event, you will lead the media team in making content and taking photos to memorialise the day.

Relations Officer

The Relations Officer is the one ensuring we get a range of guest speakers to engage with the delegates. In charge of securing scholarships, talking to important people, and more. The role requires someone with people skills and a passion for networking.

Volunteers Officer

In charge of making sure the volunteers have just as amazing a time as the delegates will! You manage volunteer well-being and make sure everyone’s day runs smoothly. As well as this, you get to plan fun volunteer activities and the afters, an essential part of any UN Youth event! You are essential to the team, keeping morale high and making sure our volunteers are looked after.

No prior UN Youth experience or knowledge is required - you’ll receive full support and a rich structure to start with, including guidance from an experienced Regional Council liaison throughout your term.

ABOUT UN YOUTH

UN Youth is a non-profit organisation that provides civics education outside the traditional classroom context. Through fun workshops and conferences, we engage youth in the most pressing affairs of their country and the international community. Our goal is to inspire young New Zealanders to be active, global citizens. Global citizenship exists in an incredibly diverse range of forms, and UN Youth provides opportunities for delegates to develop their own form of active citizenship. Throughout Aotearoa, our work equips young people to become informed, engaged, and critical New Zealanders who understand their global context and the connections between the local and the global. Annually, over 3000 young New Zealanders from Northland to Southland attend a UN Youth event, run by a body of over 150 volunteers across the country who dedicate many hours of their time to engaging young people and growing the organisation.
