ABOUT THE EVENT
Calling any volunteers with a passion for civics education and debate who want to help push delegates a little further through competition and feedback! Wellington is hosting another Wellington Competitive Model United Nations (Wellington CompMUN) for 2026, and we’re excited to have you! This year’s theme is UN+Influenced, with delegates discussing the issues of conditional aid and protecting modern cultural heritage. In this connected world, it is important to highlight how actions by individuals and states have rippling effects on the rest of the world. No nation is independent of another, and this is an important thing to consider in diplomacy; hence, UN+Influenced!
This event is great for volunteers experienced in UN Youth events and who want to help delegates challenge themselves further with more stimulating debate and content, but we’re still open to first timers! Delegates have the chance to win awards like best speaker and best amendment. Feedback will also be provided during the conference if delegates want it. It’ll be a fun event regardless and a great opportunity to polish up on your skills.

CA opportunities are listed below:
Secretary
The secretary is the tech + audio-visual master who receives and clarifies amendments for their committee. Secretaries need to be able to work efficiently and effectively with their respective chair. Secretaries must also be able to use a computer and Google Workspace efficiently.
Special Rapporteur
The special rapporteur is the Google of their committee. They need to research the educational content of their committee beforehand to prioritise what amendments will be debated further. They will also need to search and answer questions delegates may have.
Logistics Facilitator
Logistics Facilitators keep the conference running smoothly. Their tasks involve setting up catering, directing delegates around the venue, and keeping the venue clean. Logistics Facilitators should have good time management skills and be able to work in a team.
Welfare Officer
Welfare Officers hold the essential responsibility of supporting the welfare of both delegates and volunteers at Wellington Model United Nations. The ability to handle sensitive issues with a caring attitude is required as all Welfare Officers must constantly be approachable for any unwell, stressed, or upset participants. A First Aid Certificate is required to be considered as a Welfare Officer.
Photographers / Media
Photographers are an essential part of making our events memorable for participants. Photographers visit committee rooms throughout the days, taking photographs of the event and participants, which are sent to participants once the event has concluded.
Adjudicators
Adjudicators are vital for this event as they will be deciding which delegates will be receiving awards for best speech, best delegate, best position paper, etc. Alongside this, they will be taking notes on delegates that speak throughout the event, as they will be able to be provided with feedback on their speeches from adjudicators, which they can then take on board for the next day of debate.
ABOUT UN YOUTH
UN Youth is a non-profit organisation that provides civics education outside the traditional classroom context. Through fun workshops and conferences, we engage youth in the most pressing affairs of their country and the international community. Our goal is to inspire young New Zealanders to be active, global citizens. Global citizenship exists in an incredibly diverse range of forms, and UN Youth provides opportunities for delegates to develop their own form of active citizenship. Throughout Aotearoa, our work equips young people to become informed, engaged, and critical New Zealanders who understand their global context and the connections between the local and the global. Annually, over 3000 young New Zealanders from Northland to Southland attend a UN Youth event, run by a body of over 150 volunteers across the country who dedicate many hours of their time to engaging young people and growing the organisation.
