Wellington Model United Nations 2026 Coordinator Application
Be the Coordinator of the Wellington Model United Nations Committee in 2026!
Are you ready to lead and create unforgettable experiences? We’re looking for a passionate and capable Coordinator to lead the Wellington Model United Nations Committee (WMUN) in 2026.
What is WMUN?
Wellington Model United Nations is one of UN Youth Wellington’s flagship events, held annually in early Trimester 1. It follows the classic Model United Nations format, where high school students take on the roles of delegates, and university students serve as Conference Assistants and organisers. WMUN involves around 250 to 300 participants including volunteers, making it the region’s most significant and high-impact event of the year.
Your Mission
As the 2026 Coordinator, you will:
Oversee the planning and delivery of the entire conference, ensuring a well-run, impactful event from start to finish.
Lead and support your committee, fostering a positive and effective working environment.
Work with various internal and external stakeholders, including various organs of UN Youth, schools, university, grant providers, speakers, and more.
We’re looking for someone who:
Demonstrates strong leadership and organisational skills, and can work both independently and collaboratively.
Brings a strong work ethic, having led teams in high-pressure environments and reported across multiple oversight groups, while maintaining maturity and professionalism.
Has a genuine passion for youth development, civic engagement, and empowering young people to participate in meaningful discussions about global issues.
Has the time and commitment for the role, consistently going the extra mile with initiative and dedication.
No prior UN Youth experience or knowledge is required - you’ll receive full support and a rich structure to start with, including guidance from an experienced Regional Council liaison throughout your term.

ABOUT UN YOUTH
UN Youth is a non-profit organisation that provides civics education outside the traditional classroom context. Through fun workshops and conferences, we engage youth in the most pressing affairs of their country and the international community. Our goal is to inspire young New Zealanders to be active, global citizens. Global citizenship exists in an incredibly diverse range of forms, and UN Youth provides opportunities for delegates to develop their own form of active citizenship. Throughout Aotearoa, our work equips young people to become informed, engaged, and critical New Zealanders who understand their global context and the connections between the local and the global. Annually, over 3000 young New Zealanders from Northland to Southland attend a UN Youth event, run by a body of over 150 volunteers across the country who dedicate many hours of their time to engaging young people and growing the organisation.
